Day 2: Monday, 18 June 2018

Arrive in Johannesburg at 4:20 p.m. and connect with SA flight 363, which departs at 6:15 p.m. for Cape Town, arriving at 8:20 p.m.  In Cape Town you will be met and transferred to your hotel near the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

Welcome to Cape Town, Mother City of Africa, and the Western Cape, an area which is regarded as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The City is a rare cultural gem, resulting from the amalgamation of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers, the local Bushman and Hottentot tribes and the Bantu tribes from the north.

The impressive presence of Table Mountain, flanked by the legendary Devil’s Peak and historical Signal Hill, stands proudly above the city. Beautiful white sandy beaches along a peaceful coastline frame the Cape Peninsula, which is famed for its unique floral kingdom, bountiful rivers, valleys and dams and magnificent countryside. The surrounding area extends far into the Winelands, green in summer and red-gold in autumn.

Overnight & breakfast:  COMMODORE HOTEL

The Commodore Hotel, located on the highest point of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, offers spectacular 360-degree views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, Table Bay and Robben Island. This premier hotel boasts elegantly appointed accommodation, with breathtaking views, assuring comfort, quality and luxury.

Escapism is not only a state of mind, it is also a place at the cosmopolitan Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town.

And that place is The Commodore, a five-star Legacy hotel where stylish living, excellent service and a tranquil setting comes standard. Enjoy breathtaking views of the charming ‘Mother City’ from the upper floors of the hotel’s superior rooms then treat yourself to a sundowner on the terrace after a long day. Exquisite seafood and a selection of South Africa’s finest wines are the perfect ingredients of an intimate meal at the elegant Clipper Restaurant.

Day 3: Tuesday, 19 June 2018

Morning tour of the “Mother City” includes a visit to the Malay Quarter and a cableway trip up Table Mountain (weather permitting). Drive past the Cultural History Museum, St George’s Cathedral, the Company Gardens and the South African Museum. Table Mountain rises behind the city to a height of 1 087m, cutting the skyline with a horizontal front three kilometers in length. The cableway takes you to the summit in less than ten minutes with rotating gondola’s ensuring stunning 360 degree views of the city and surrounds.

Afternoon Robben Island Tour

Depart from the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront at Nelson Mandela Gateway for a 30 minute ferry trip to the World Heritage site of Robben Island.  A prison for 450 years for slaves, lepers and political dissidents, this historic landmark is now a museum.  Once on the island you will be taken on a guided tour of the lime quarry, as well as the Prison Block where famous political prisoners such as Nelson Mandela, (Cell 5) and Tokyo Sexwala were incarcerated.

Overnight & breakfast:  COMMODORE HOTEL

Day 4: Wednesday, 20 June 2018

Full day Cape Point Tour

Full day Cape Peninsula tour along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes.  Enjoy the dramatic views from Chapman’s Peak Drive before reaching Cape Point where (by tradition) two marine ecosystems and oceans meet. Take the funicular to the old lighthouse overlooking this dramatic coast. The Good Hope Nature Reserve with its diversity of fynbos flora covers 7 750 unspoiled hectares of the southernmost tip of the Cape Peninsula. Drive through the historic naval base, Simon’s Town, with a visit to the penguin colony at Boulders. Penguins are flightless, aquatic birds, which live in the southern oceans in climates as varied as Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands on the equator. There are seventeen species in all but the African Penguin is the only one to inhabit the African continent and its inshore islands. It used to be known as the Jackass Penguin, on account of the braying sounds which it makes on land, but the name ‘African Penguin’ has now been adopted to distinguish it from the Jackass Penguin found in South America, which is slightly different in appearance and behavior.

Continue through Fish Hoek and Muizenberg to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Kirstenbosch was established as a center for the preservation and study of the indigenous flora of southern Africa and has over 5000 species. All year round, one can enjoy glorious living displays of wild flowers and the magnificent collection of cycads, silver trees and other shrubs, plants and trees.  The Shona sculptures are also intriguing.

The tour of the museum lasts approximately two hours. We then continue to Soweto (SOuth WEstern TOwnship), largest black residential area in South Africa, where we see a fascinating contrast to Rosebank and Sandton in the north. This sprawling “city within a city” is home to approximately 2-million people, many of whom work in various parts of the greater metropolitan area of the Witwatersrand. Our tour route takes you to all the major points of interest, such as Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Baragwanath taxi rank, Freedom Square, Hector Pieterson Memorial and Nelson Mandela’s former home.

Once, you are awakened with a hot cup of coffee, your host ranger will take you out on an exceptional game drive, taking you through Black Rhino Reserve, into the unexplored valley of the Pilanesberg, until we reach the 200km network Pilanesberg Park roads.

The main lodge boasts 18 very spacious and luxuriously appointed bedroom suites. Each comfortable air-conditioned suite offers a television, tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar and private patio that opens out into the bush.
